Reporting to a Project Manager, Mark will start as Project Manager on a 4-month assignment at a major software and solutions firm. There are several reasons he's pleased with this move:

     "I'll be performing day-to-day project manager tasks for the largest installation/upgrade of Oracle Financial 11i ever attempted. Currently the project is behind schedule and needs to be brought back to the original delivery date. The project team consists of 128 technical and financial individuals.

     "The other project manager I will be responsible for the overall completion, working on the largest problem areas. I will be responsible for keeping the team running smoothly with day-to-day tasks, flagging areas falling further behind and attempting to fast-track wherever possible.

     "The compensation is in line with expectations. The location is a reasonable 20 minute commute. The client company is a well known and respected high tech organization in the networking environment with significant growth potential. This is an opportunity with contract-to-permanent employment potential with a company I would enjoy working for on a long term basis."

     "I gladly accepted this position based on the expected challenges from a high visibility project with a high visibility firm. Obstacles I overcame: 1. Currently unemployed 2. Age issues 3. More general rather than specialized task experience 4. Mixed functional and project management experience, rather than a path with progressive management responsibility."
